This is a question we receive quite frequently and is a hard question to answer. The truth is that all crystal is glass, but not all glass is crystal. In fact, some glass is considered crystal in some parts of the world and the same piece in other parts of the world is not. Confused yet? The best way to explain the difference is if glass has a certain percentage of lead oxide content it can be considered crystal. In the United States, if a piece of glass has at least 1% lead oxide it can be considered crystal. In Europe, the glass piece must contain more than 10% lead oxide to be labeled as crystal. So what does this mean when it comes to the difference between crystal awards and glass awards? The higher the lead content in the glass the higher index of refraction the glass will have making it sparkle and weigh more.
