The 2012 Soul Train Awards took place on November 25 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The event brought out the biggest names in R&B, all vying for the top awards in their genres. The fun-filled event was hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, who made sure to keep the laughs coming all night long.

ABC affiliate WHAM 13 reports the award show had plenty of performances, as well as heartfelt tributes to fallen stars, including the late Whitney Houston. Houston was honored with the Best Gospel/Inspirational Performance for her role in the film "Sparkle." Houston's former husband Bobby Brown was also honored with his group New Edition. The all-male R&B group took home the Lifetime Achievement Award during the event, the singers then performed a few of their classic hits before accepting the honors.

"I wanna thank my brothers for sticking by me at all times. I wanna thank all of you for always having my back no matter what I've been through in my life. I'm still standing on my feet," Brown told the crowd, according to the news station.

Other winners of the night included John Legend, 2 Chainz, Tyrese and Soul Train creator Don Cornelius.
