The 17th annual Satellite Awards took place on December 16 and the event had some surprising wins. Entertainment Weekly reports drama “Silver Linings Playbook” took home the top awards of the night, beating out blockbusters like “Les Miserables” and “Life of Pi.”
Aside from taking home the award for Motion Picture of the Year, the stars of the film also earned praise. Jennifer Lawrence won the Best Actress in a Motion Picture title for her work in the film, while co-star Bradley Cooper was honored in the same category for males. The film’s director, David O. Russell, won for Best Director, while Jay Cassidy won Best Production Design for the film as well.
In the television categories, it was the acclaimed show “Homeland” that took home the top awards. It won for Best Drama, Best Actress in a Drama Series (Claire Danes) and Best Actor in a Drama Series (Damian Lewis). When it came to comedy, “The Big Bang Theory” was the clear winner. The show won in the Best Comedy category and Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series, with Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco winning respectively.
E! Online reports the five wins for “Silver Linings Playbook” has some media experts thinking that the film may be an upset at this years Academy Awards.
