Teachers are recognized for their contributionsBy Abigail Richards

The education sector can be demanding on many teachers, but those who go above and beyond in the profession to really help their students succeed are recognized for their work.

The Salem-Keizer Education Foundation recently announced that 49 Oregon educators have been nominated for the 2010 Crystal Apple Awards, which is an annual event used to celebrate those who present excellence in education, according to StatesmanJournal.com.

The presentation of the crystal awards will be held on November 18th at the Elsinore Theatre. The news provider reports that the ceremony will have a red carpet feel.

Most educators who were nominated came from public institutions, while two individuals were from private schools.

According to the award's website, the prize is presented to teachers who are considered assets to their community and schools. The crystal award is chosen as a way to exemplify that the educator is appreciated for their efforts in improving the education system and enriching students' lives.

The Apple Awards have been around for more than 30 years.
