The annual National High School Musical Theater Awards ceremony took place last night in New York City, and teens from all over the country took home Jimmy Awards for their work in performing acts at their respective schools, according to Broadway World.
One of the big awards, Best Actor, went to Ryan McCartan of Minnetonka High School in Minnesota as he beat out Sarah Cartwright of Eastview High School, which is also located in Minnesota, according to the news source.
The intention of these recognition awards is to promote the importance and necessity of performing arts in schools across the country, the media outlet reports.
According to the River Oaks Examiner, Mia Gerachis of Episcopal High School in Houston received the “Spirit of the Jimmy Awards,” for her work and participation in performing arts at her school.
Bob Lawson, the director of education at the school said that he “is very proud to sponsor our two students in the national awards. To be able to provide them such an amazing learning experience and exposure to our industry is huge. We are very proud of what they both have accomplished.”
