Kendrick Lamar made a big splash on the music scene this year, and it has already paid off with multiple nominations at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The rapper leads all musicians with 14 chances to win recognition awards at the ceremony, including Best Hip Hop Video, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, MVP of the Year and Best Featured Verse.
Lamar won Lyricist of the Year at last year's show, but he is poised to take home more custom awards thanks to hits like "Don't Kill My Vibe," "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice." He also caused fans to take notice with several heavily hyped guest verses from some of the biggest names in rap music.
Rapper Drake was right behind Lamar with 13 nominations, while J. Cole earned the third-most with 10 nods, USA Today reported. Much of the recognition for Drake came for his single "Started From the Bottom," as well as his collaborations on "Pop That" and Lamar's "Poetic Justice." J. Cole received praise for his album "Born Sinner" and its first single, "Power Trip."
The BET Hip Hop Awards will air Oct. 15 after being taped Sept. 28. Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg will host the show.
