Katy Perry will be honored with the Artist of the Year award by music business association, NARM, during the Music Biz 2012 Awards Dinner party in Los Angeles on May 10.

Perry has had quite the year, as she tied Michael Jackson’s record for most number one singles from one album, Teenage Dream. The album, which was released in 2010, quickly topped the charts and sold more than 5.5 million copies across the globe.

“Katy’s music was absolutely everywhere over the past year, and her dominance of the singles charts is a nearly unprecedented accomplishment,” said Jim Donio, President of NARM. “While Katy was a highly successful artist prior to Teenage Dream, she has unquestionably blossomed into a true global superstar and has earned this Award in every sense of the word.”

Perry first made an impact on the music world with her 2008 single “I Kissed a Girl,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. That album, One of the Boys, also saw a great deal of success.
