The Iowa Donor Network in North Liberty, Iowa, was recently honored for its work in acting as the primary contact for organ, tissue and eye donations. The organization was one of eight winners of the statewide Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence Awards.
Winners of the recognition awards are selected by the Iowa Quality Center and the Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence Executive Council. Iowa Donor Network received the top honors in the tier 1 Commitment Level category.
The Iowa Donor Network’s official website reports its mission is based on “believing that organ and tissue donation is the right decision, every Iowan says ‘Yes’ to donation and no one waits for a transplant.”
In 2011, the group helped oversee 2,322 heart transplants, 27 heart and lung transplants, 16,812 kidney transplants and 6,341 liver transplants among others. In total, they helped with approximately 28,535 transplants during the year.
The nonprofit and the other winners of the Excellence Awards will be honored during the Governor’s Celebration of Excellence on May 2. The event will be held at the Meadows Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa.
