Freelance writer takes home Eclipse Award

This year’s Eclipse Award in the Feature/Commentary category went to freelance writer Ryan Goldberg. The Sports Network reports Goldberg won one of these prestigious recognition awards for his piece, “Keiber Coa Presses on a Year After Father’s Fateful Spill.”

The article focused on the relationship between father-and-son jockeys Eibar and Keiber Coa. The story was featured in the Daily Racing Form “DRF Weekend,” back on July 7.

Goldberg admitted taking home such an honor was humbling, especially for an article that resonated so much with his childhood love of horse racing.

“I feel incredibly proud of the work and grateful to receive this honor,” Goldberg told the news outlet. “I grew up reading all of the racing greats who influenced my work, like Bill Nack and Joe Hirsch. To see my name next to theirs on this award is overwhelming.”

The awards are presented by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, the Daily Racing Forum and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters. They are given out to media outlets or individual writers for their “outstanding achievement” in media coverage of horse racing.
