Famed rock ‘n’ roll musician Chuck Berry has had quite the career. The Associated Press reports Berry, who is noted as being one of the pioneers of the genre and has cranked out countless hits, was recently honored with an award in his home state.

The St. Louis native was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the St. Louis Arts and Education Council. Berry received one of these prestigious recognition awards during a special presentation on January 21 at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel.

Most music experts would agree Berry deserves the praise since he has had such a fabulous career. Aside from helping shape rock ‘n’ roll, he also had plenty of hit songs. Some of his most popular songs include, “Maybellene,” “Sweet Little Sixteen” and “Johnny B. Goode.”

NBC affiliate KSDK reports guitarist Billy Peek honored Berry during the recent event by performing a few of his hit songs, including “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Johnny B. Goode.”

The ceremony was also an important moment for the St. Louis Arts and Education Council. The group celebrated its 50th anniversary during Berry’s special night.
