CARA award winners announced

The winners of this year’s CARA awards, which recognizes the top athletes and teams for its young sports in Clarenville, Canada, according to the Packet.

Some of the winners included Stephanie Marie Fleming and Andrew Smith, who won the Cholock Memorial Award for exceeding in more than one sport throughout the year. This is the 40th year for the CARA organization, the media outlet reports.

“The quality of the nominees was exceptional. The response was great. Every year a committee is struck to pour over the nominations and every year it’s getting more and more difficult to select a winner,” the committee chair, John Pickett, told the news source.

According to the Leader Messenger, the CARA awards were not the only ones given recently to young athletes. Emma Cirelli of Australia was recently given a recognition awards for her exceptional soccer skills.

“Her outstanding skill level was also demonstrated by winning every event she entered at the Catholic School Girls Athletics Carnival and School Sports SA Athletics Carnival in 2010,” Brad Snell, her physcial education teacher, told the news source.
