Nominees were recently announced for the International Bluegrass Music Awards. The Gibson Brothers and Balsam Range emerged as the two groups with the best chance at bringing home some of the recognition awards, as the acts lead all nominees with eight and seven nominations, respectively.
The Gibson Brothers are nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Vocal Group and Song of the Year for "They Called It Music," among others. They will be up against Balsam Range in the Song of the Year category, as two of that group's tunes were nominated – "Any Old Road (Will Take You There)" and "Papertown." Also competing for the prize are Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out for "Gentle on my Mind" and Junior Sisk & Rambers Choice for "The Story of the Day that I Died."
In addition to the two nominations for Song of the Year, Balsam Range is up for custom trophies in categories like Entertainer of the Year, Best Vocal Group and Recorded Event of the year.
All of the award winners are selected by members of the International Bluegrass Music Association. The results are set to be revealed during a ceremony Sept. 26 as the centerpiece of World of Bluegrass Week.
