The talented Billy Connolly, also known as Big Yin, was recently honored with one of the most prestigious awards given out by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). The Scottish comedian, musician and actor was given the Outstanding Contribution Award for his more than six decades in the entertainment business, Movies News Desk reports.
Connolly’s talents were recently talked up during a public event in Glasgow called “BAFTA: A Life in Pictures.” Big Yin opened up about his career to more than 500 people in the audience. Connolly spoke about his works spanning comedy, music and film and enticed fans with an insider’s glimpse into his latest motion picture, “Quartet,” directed by Dustin Hoffman.
Jude MacLaverty, director of BAFTA in Scotland, is thrilled that Connolly was honored with the award.
“We are thrilled that Billy is a recipient of an Outstanding Contribution Award. He is a true master of his craft and continues to be a massive inspiration to a whole new generation of Scottish talent,” MacLaverty said in a statement. “Age shows no sign of mellowing the Big Yin – he’s still a force to be reckoned with at 70; a huge talent and one of the world’s best loved comedians, actor and all round amazing musician.”
