This year’s Hank Aaron award winners were announced Saturday, Oct. 25. The prestigious honor is given to the best offensive players in the American and National leagues.
According to USA Today, Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins and Mike Trout from the Los Angeles Angels were this year’s recipients.
NBC Sports reported that Stanton led the National League in home runs, hitting 37 this season. He was second in his league for OPS and RBIs, coming in at .950 and 105, respectively. The source noted that the outstanding right fielder would have had an even higher number of RBIs had he not been hit in the face with a pitch and forced to sit out the season’s last three weeks.
Trout, who is the Angel’s center fielder, led the American League in runs scored and RBIs. According to NBC Sports, he was third in the league for home runs with 36. He was also third for OPS at .939. Trout could not be in attendance at the awards ceremony but sent a video expressing his gratitude, noted USA Today.
The ceremony took place at AT&T Park in San Francisco prior to Game 4 of the World Series. The players received custom awards designed by Fine Awards to commemorate their achievements.
