The BMI's annual Urban Awards took place this past Friday night, and rapper Snoop Dogg took home the biggest award of the night – the Icon Award, according to RTT News.
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, thanked his family and friends for the prestigious award, as he was overjoyed to receive it, the media outlet reports.
"I don't feel like [an icon] because I'm still doing it; I'm making music." Snoop Dogg told the news source. "For me, an icon is somebody like [singer and close friend] Charlie Wilson. For [BMI] to be honoring me, for him to come out tonight – this is my uncle, somebody I grew up listening to – and to say I that I've been able to make records with him, he's gone on tour with me … this is crazy to me."
According to Billboard, fellow rapper Dr. Dre was the person to present Snoop Dogg with the recognition award during the ceremony. During his presentation, he thanked Snoop Dogg for his input on making Dr. Dre the star he is today.
