March is upon us and for many sports fans (or fans of betting), it's a busy month thanks to March Madness. The annual month of college basketball games brings out fierce competition among friends and even co-workers hoping to win with their brackets.
A recent poll conducted by OfficeTeam discovered office pools offer more than just a chance for workers to beat each other out, it also boosts morale. The company asked more than 1,000 managers certain questions including whether March Madness festivities like watching game highlights in the office seemed to bring employees together.
From the results, it was found one in five managers believed the activities improve employee morale somewhat, in comparison to just 4 percent of managers surveyed who felt they had a negative impact.
Since it's likely employees are going to participate in some form of March Madness action, it might be a fun idea to create an office-wide pool. Even though the pool might not be able to result in monetary gain legally, another option, such as doling out awards or a trophy to the winner could be just as special. The winner can keep the award for the year, and will then have to pass it off to the top dog in the next year's pool, making the fun idea an annual event.
