Being recognized for doing well in the workplace has grown increasingly important in recent years. Not only does expressing gratitude to employees help them feel appreciated, but it may also improve the worth ethic of the entire company.
The Thriving Small Business reports there are plenty of ways for managers and business owners to boost company spirit, though two types of recognition stand out the most.
Informal praise
This type of recognition doesn't result in an employee earning glass awards for their hard work, but rather, gaining a pat on the back or a "job well done" by the higher ups. Even though saying "you're doing a good job" to workers might not seem like a lot, it shows employees their continued efforts aren't going unnoticed.
Formal recognition
Despite the fact that most people will gain a boost of confidence after getting verbal recognition from the boss, seeing their efforts come to life by way of a lunch on the manager or a custom trophy is also important. Bigger awards like this should be reserved for the top sales person of the month, or for the person who never takes a sick day, rather than giving them out on a more regular basis.
